The Events
Task 1: Stair Climb
The first event is the stair climb with Hi-Rise Pack. The Hi-Rise Pack is a 19kg bundle of hose. This is carried on the outside shoulder when moving up the stairs and must be deposited completely in or on the box on the top floor of the tower (12m, 60 steps). A 2-second penalty is assessed if any part of the Pack is touching the tower platform. When ascending the tower handrails may be used. Steps can be taken one at a time or in multiples on the way up. When descending handrails and steps must be used. Failure to touch each step on the way down will result in a 2-second penalty per infraction.
Task 2: Hose Hoist
On the top platform of the Tower, you pull another 19 kilogram hose package, called a donut roll, upwards over a rope. Participants must perform a hand-over-hand movement. There is a special regulation for participants who are less than 1.67 meters tall, please contact us! The donut roll must be lifted over the railing and then placed in the box provided. The Donut Roll is not allowed to touch the HAIX Tower or fall more than one floor
Task 3: Forcible Entry
Before you start hitting, you must stand with both feet on the stands of the Challenger Force Machine. You must now use the hammer to hit a weight backwards over a distance of 25.4 centimetres. Hanging, pushing or levering the weight is not permitted. The style of the hammer must not touch the weight to be hit or any other parts of the Challenger Force Machine after it has been picked up. Finally, place the hammer in the 1×1 meter marked area provided for this purpose. It is sufficient if any part of the hammer touches this area or intersects the imaginary vertical planes through the outer edges of the area.
Task 4: Slalom Run
Now you start the 42.5 meter long slalom run. This begins along the outer edge of the competition area and runs around the four hydrants set up. Each hydrant must be run around in the designated order and must not fall over.
Task 5: Hose Advance
At the end of the course is a filled and pressurized 45mm hose which must be pulled over 23 meters between the hydrants and the door frame. From there you must hit a target with the water jet and close and drop the nozzle. You can open the nozzle before passing through the door frame. However, after dropping it, it must touch the blue floor marking when it has come to rest.
Task 6: Victim Rescue
In the victim rescue, you pull a “Rescue Randy” dummy weighing around 80 kilograms over 30 meters with a rescue grip, running backwards to the finish line. The dummy’s feet must be pulled over the blue floor markings into the finish line. Neither carrying the dummy nor pulling on its clothing or limbs is permitted. If you use force against the dummy, such as hitting or kicking, you will be disqualified immediately. If you fall, you must free yourself without assistance and grasp the dummy again from behind with a rescue handle and continue the run.
Competition Type

This is a 2-person Technical Race and features a cylinder exchange at the halfway point. This Race is fast but demands concentration and teamwork. Each Team Member does one half of the course (front or back) and working together complete a 'Quick Change' of an air cylinder.
Relay
3 to 5 person teams complete the 7 tasks that make up the Event. This is fast, fun and is a good way to get you involved in the competition.
Description of each event
TANDEM
Task 1: Donning the SCBA
Wearing Structural Fire Fighting Gear Competitor #1 dons the SCBA. Time starts on the starters flag. Shoulder straps and hip straps must be secured before running the stairs. The SCBA is set in a standard way for all Competitors. All straps undone and cylinder upright and facing out. All 4 straps need to be pulled; waist belt buckled and tightened. No touching the SCBA prior to the start.
Task 2: Ascending the Tower
Once the SCBA is donned the Competitor runs up the tower using both hands to pull on the handrails.
Task 3: Hose Hoist
The Competitor at the top of the tower moves to the railing and pulls up the 19kg donut roll .The donut roll must be lifted over the railing and placed in the box. Please note special rule for competitors under 165cm height.
Task 4: Descending the Tower
Competitor moves down the stairs touching all stair steps and using handrails.
Task 5: Forcible Entry
Competitor #1 moves to the Forcible Entry Simulator and completes the chopping evolution.
Task 6: Air Cylinder Exchange
Competitor #1 moves to the Bottle Exchange Area, where Competitor #2 is waiting to exchange the air cylinder. Competitor #2 is already wearing the SCBA harness (no bottle). Competitor #2 removes Competitor #1's Air Cylinder and passes it to Competitor #1, who then inserts the Air Cylinder into Competitor #2's harness, listening for the 'click' confirming placement and the Velcro strap is secure. Competitor #2 is now able to begin their portion of the course.
Task 7: Run
Competitor #2 runs the slalom section to the nozzle of a fully charged hose line.
Task 8: Hose Advance
Competitor #2 drags the hose line. Once the nozzle crosses the line into the Nozzle Zone the Competitor opens the nozzle and strikes the target with the water stream. Once target is down and before proceeding to the next Task, the nozzle must be closed and placed on the ground.
Task 9: Victim Rescue
Competitor moves to the 80kg Mannequin victim, sits mannequin up and lifts to move it 30m backwards to the finish line. Time stops when the Competitor crosses the beam and the mannequin's feet are completely across the blue line.
RELAY
Here is how it works!
To compete in the Relay a team must consist of 3 to 5 individuals who will complete one or more of the seven tasks. All competitors wear full turnout gear (helmet, coat and pants with liners, boots and gloves) and wear but do not breathe from a SCBA.
For the Seeding Round a start list will be prepared by the Administrator with course sides determined. For the Knockout rounds a coin toss will determine the lane (Yellow or Red Course) that the team will run on. The team is then pre-positioned in their assigned locations. Variations apply, but each task must be completed before exchanging the flashlight. The flashlight must be carried in your hand and exchanges are grasp to grasp. A 2 second penalty will apply if not grasp to grasp. You may not touch any piece of equipment prior to the exchange. A 2-second penalty is given for each infraction. The flashlight may not be put in the mouth, pockets or in clips at any time.
All competitors must compete in each round. If a competitor does not compete in a round they cannot continue into another round.
In the Knockout round prior to each race a coin toss will take place and the winning team has the choice of which side of the course they would like to run on in that round.
Mixed Relay Rules:
Prior to the first round of the Mixed Relay a draw is done to determine what tasks the female members of the teams will do in each round.
The tasks are:
Hi-Rise / Stairs Up
Donut Roll Pull
Stairs DOWN
Force Machine
Run Hydrants
Hose Drag / Show Water
Victim Rescue
Stairs Up / Stairs Down
Stairs Down / Force Machine
Force Machine / Hydrants
Hydrants / Hose Drag / Show Water
Task 1: Stair Climb with Hi-Rise Pack
With flashlight in hand carry a Hi-Rise pack to the top of the tower. The Hi-Rise pack must be deposited in the box at the top of the tower. Proper placement is on or in the box, with no part of the Hi-Rise Pack touching the deck. The second competitor is already positioned at the top of the tower. Once the first competitor reaches the top of the tower, has one foot on the top platform and has deposited the hi-rise pack in the box, he may then make the exchange.
Task 2: Hose Hoist
From the top of the tower, using a hand over hand motion, pull the rope to hoist a donut roll . This Task is complete when the donut roll clears the rail and is placed in the designated box at the top of the tower. Proper placement is on or in the box, with no part of the donut roll touching the deck. The donut roll must not leave the top platform, or it will result in disqualification. Upon completion of the hose hoist the competitor then retrieves and passes off the flashlight or continues down the tower. When receiving the flashlight the next competitor, must have 1 foot on the top landing of the tower. Flashlights falling off the tower have a 10 second penalty in seeding round and disqualification in knockout rounds.
Task 3: Descending the Tower
The Competitor who is descending the tower must touch every stair and use the handrails. Once the competitor has both feet on the ground, they may pass off the flashlight to the next competitor who then moves to the force machine. The force machine cannot be used to enable the exchange. Exchanges must be grasp to grasp and in clear view of the official. A 2 second penalty will apply if not grasp to grasp.
Task 4: Forcible Entry
Once on the Force Machine the competitor uses a 4kg hammer to move the beam along 24.5cm until some part of the green decal can be seen. Once complete the competitor must place the mallet on the designated 10cm x10cm area, pick up the flashlight and hand it off to the next competitor. If the hammer does not stay in the 10x10 area a 2 second penalty is given.
Task 5: Run
This competitor runs around the hydrants as fast as they can 42.5m distance, then hands off or shoulders a 45mm fully charged hose line. There is a 5 second penalty for missing a hydrant and a 2 second penalty for knocking over a hydrant. Note: If passing off the flashlight to a waiting competitor the nozzle must not be touched until the flashlight has been exchanged grasp to grasp.
Task 6: Hose Advance
The hose advance competitor shoulders a fully charged hose line and drags it . Once the nozzle crosses the 23m mark, the competitor opens the nozzle, hits the target with the stream of water. There is a 2 second penalty for missing the target. The competitor must close the nozzle before passing the flashlight. Exchanging the flashlight while the nozzle is open results in a 5-second penalty. Once the hose advance is complete the competitor moves towards the final task and either completes the Victim Rescue or hands the flashlight off to the final competitor, who is stationed between the target and victim.
Task 7: Victim Rescue
The final competitor moves to the victim rescue task where a 80kg mannequin, plus coveralls and boots, must be lifted and moved backwards a distance of 30m. Carrying the mannequin in your arms or over your shoulder is not permitted. The rescue dummy’s feet must stay on the ground. The mannequin must not be grasped by its clothing or appendages. There is a 2 second penalty for spiking the mannequin. The Relay is complete when the competitor and mannequin cross the finish line breaking the beam and stopping the clock. The mannequin's feet must be completely across the blue line.
Note: The rest of the team must stop at the last hydrant so that the final competitor is not interfered with when crossing the finish line. Failure to stay behind the last hydrant results in a 2-second penalty.
